Bhutan Tour itinerary for 10 days including Jambay Lhakhang drup festival and Praker Tsechu Festival in Bumthang

Oct. 29, 2009 ( Tuesday)

Day-1  Arrive Paro from Bangkok. On your arrival at the Paro International airport, you will be received by your tour guide from Sakten Tours and Treks and escorted to your hotel. After some refreshment at the hotel visit the Paro Rinpung Dzong and the Paro Ta-dzong, the National Museum of Bhutan. Evening drive to Thimphu ( 2 hours drive). O/n hotel

Day -2 Taktsang Monastery dayhike Hike to Taktsang Monastery. The word Taktsang means Tigers Nest. It is said that during the early 7th century, the Tibetan saint known as the Guru Rimpoche alighted here riding upon the back of a Tigress and meditated here for over 3 months to subdue the Demons  and also to spread the Buddhism in the region. After three months of meditation he then ordered the Taktsang Monastery to be built on the same spot where he had meditated. The Monastery is built on a rocky ledge with a sheer drop of more than 1000m.

Day -3
 Full day Thimphu sightseeing. O/n hotel Visit the Memorial Chorten (a large stupa) built in memory of the Third King of Bhutan. Drive to Sangyegang view point where you can get a wonderful bird’s eye view of Thimphu valley. Visit the Takin sanctuary ( Takin is the  National Animal of Bhutan).
Visit the Zorig Chuksum, the School of the Thirteen Arts and Crafts. This institute was established in 1971 and students from across Bhutan come to learn the traditional arts and crafts. Visit the Textile Museum where rare and beautiful textiles can be seen.Visit the Handicraft Emporium Visit the Tashichhodzong which is the administrative center of Bhutan. The offices of the King, the Abbott and the four ministries are housed in this massive structure.

Nov. 1st, 2009

Day - 4 -
 After an early breakfast, drive to Punakha via Dochula pass ( 3120m). It is 77 kms way and trhe drive takes about 3 hours. On the way stop at the Dochula pass to visit the 108 beautiful Stupas built in the middle of the pass and also to view the  snowcapped mountain ranges. If the weather is clear, you can view the entire Eastern Himalayan Mountain ranges from here. At Punakha, visit the Punakha dzong and the Khamsum Yule Namgyel Monastery. O/n hotel

Nov. 2nd,  2009

Day-5 – After an early breakfast, drive to Bumthang ( 210 km and the drive takes about 8-9 hours). On the way visit the Wangdi Phodrang Dzong and also at Trongsa, visit the Trongsa Dzong..O/n Hotel in
Bumthang.

Nov.3rd, 2009

Day -6 -  Full day at the Jambay Lhakhang Drup festival O/n Bumthang

Nov.4th, 2009

Day – 7-
  Full day at the Praker Tshechu festival.O/n Bumthang

Nov.5th, 2009

Day -8 –
Morning – After an early breakfast, drive to Mongar ( 197kms and the drive takes about 8-9 hours) O/n Mongar.

Nov.6th, 2007

Day – 09 - 
Morning, visit the Mongar dzong and then drive to Trashigang ( 97 kms and the drive takes about 3 hours).Afternoon, visit the Trashigang Dzong and its small town. O/n Trashigang.

Nov. 7th , 2009

Day - 10
  - Drive to Samdrup Jongkhar ( 178 km and the drive takes about 7-8 hours). O/n hotel

Nov. 8th , 2009

Day - 11 - Departure.
